"From Classmates to Colleagues" Flyer
Come celebrate the transition from college student to professional through an entire day of informative workshops, resources, and opportunities to network with local employers and alumni. Enjoy free prizes and free food during a networking reception while you get your questions answered and prepare for life after college.
10:00am-11:10am
- Manage Finances (Room 1, capacity of 57) – In this workshop, you’ll learn some different strategies for staying out of the red and how to budget effectively.
- Cope with Stress (Room 2, capacity of 60) – During the job search, you may experience heightened stress due to concerns about the economy, needing a minimum salary to pay bills, etc. Learn specific strategies to handle the stress you have and prevent additional stress.
- Understand Workplace Culture (Room 3, capacity of 59) – Even after you obtain a job, there are many things to keep in mind to make sure your work environment is a good fit. You’ll learn how to assess culture and work successfully within that environment.
11:20am-12:30pm
- Market your College Experience (Room 1, capacity of 57) – Learn different ways to present your unique college activities, internships, etc. on your resume and in person for interviews.
- Develop Successful Networking Strategies (Room 2, capacity of 60) – Networking has been shown to be the most effective strategy for obtaining a job. In this workshop, you’ll learn different ways to successfully connect with people, build community, and expand your potential career options.
- Explore Options…What if? (Room 3, capacity of 59) – There are many alternatives to an 8-5 job after college – come check out what some of those options are, how to pursue them, and what skills/experience recruiters are looking for.
1:00pm-2:00pm
- Keynote Address: Transitioning into the Changing Economy (Rooms 1,2,3) – Sharell Mikesell, Ph.D, the Associate Vice President-Industry Liaison Office, and Nikol Bowen, Career Counselor at Career Connection, will speak about successfully navigating changes in the economy by emphasizing your transferable skills as well as professionalism and workplace expectations.
2:15pm-3:15pm
- Perspectives from the Real World: Alumni and Employer Panel (Rooms 1,2,3) – A panel of OSU alumni and local professionals who represent a wide range of industries will give advice and share their perspectives about the job search and life after OSU.
3:30pm-4:00pm
- Networking Reception with Employers and Alumni (Rooms 1,2,3) – Get a chance to mingle and practice networking with peers and professionals.
10:00am-4:00pm
- Resource Room (Dave Griner Room) – This room will be open during the entire event and will feature:
- career services professionals to critique your resume
- information about all career services available to you on campus
- perspectives from employers answering top questions about resumes, interviewing, getting a job, and keeping a job
- books and websites with additional career information
