This free event is open to everyone who wants to prepare for a job or internship. You will have the opportunity to meet with recent alumni, wellness professionals, and career experts to assist you with life after college transitions, particularly in light of the changing economy. You can attend workshops that address managing finances, coping with life after college challenges, marketing your college experience, finding alternatives to 9-5 work, and learning how to network. Additionally, a resource room will be available for you to get free resume critiques, access to helpful career handouts, and meet representatives from a few organizations in the community.
This event is sponsored by University Career Services Committee, Student Wellness Center, Office for Disability Services, and The Alumni Association.
4:30-5:25pm
- Managing Your Finances (Room 1, capacity of 60) – In this workshop, you’ll learn some different strategies for staying out of the red and how to budget effectively.
- Thriving After College (Room 2, capacity of 60) – During the job search, you may experience heightened stress due to concerns about the economy, needing a minimum salary to pay bills, etc. Learn specific strategies to handle the stress you have and prevent additional stress. Even after you obtain a job, there are many things to keep in mind to make sure your work environment is a good fit. You’ll learn how to assess workplace culture and work successfully within that environment.
5:30-6:25pm
- Job Search Strategies/Marketing Yourself (Room 1, capacity of 60) – In this workshop you’ll receive tips that will help you develop a strategic job hunting process by using all available resources. The topics covered include: how and what to prepare, online search methods, off line search methods, networking, cold calling, informational interviews, and getting the job before it's even advertised. Also, learn different ways to present your unique college activities, internships, etc. on your resume and in person for interviews.
- Alternatives to 9-5 Jobs (Room 2, capacity of 60) – There are many alternatives to a 9-5 job after college – come check out what some of those options are, how to pursue them, and what skills/experience recruiters are looking for.
6:30-8pm
- Networking: Perspectives from the Real World (Rooms 1,2,3) – Meet OSU alumni who represent a wide range of industries and will give advice and share their perspectives about networking and job searching. Get a chance to practice speed networking with peers and professionals.
4:30-8pm
- Resource Room (Dave Griner Room) – This room will be open during the entire event and will feature:
- career services professionals to critique your resume
- information about all career services available to you on campus
- tables with information from the Student Wellness Center, The Graduate School, and the OSU Alumni Association
- books and websites with additional career information
