First Generation Envisioning Network (FGEN)


The First Generation Envisioning Network (FGEN) is an 8-week program that brings career development and life planning resources to a cohort of First Generation students. The program seeks to provide a safe atmosphere to ask questions about life, college, and career, and to build community with other First Generation students at the Ohio State University. 


2021 Program 

The Summer 2021 Program will take place from June 7th through August 13th. 

Program sign-ups are open from April 19th through April 30th. Students must be currently enrolled First Generation college students, and undergraduates from all majors, programs, and ranks are welcome to sign up. Participants who complete the full program will receive a stipend of $150 in BuckID credit. 

Students will participate in Strategic Futuring, a curriculum designed to empower them to envision and set goals for their ideal lives and career plans. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in mentorship and networking sessions with representatives from top employers in the Columbus area. Financial and mental wellness sessions, hosted by Ohio State staff, are also included in the program curriculum. 

Curriculum highlights include: 

  • Strengths and values self-assessment 
  • Creating 30-, 60-, and 90-day goals 
  • Micro mentorship and mock interviews with top Columbus-area employers 
  • Scarlet and Grey Financial Wellness workshops 
  • Grad School 101 workshop


2021 Internship

First Generation students with more leadership, peer mentorship, and facilitation experience may be interested in participating as a summer intern. Interns will serve as mentors and co-facilitators to the 2021 summer cohort. The application and additional inforation (including a job duties, payment, and hour committment) are available on Parker Dewey. The deadline for internship applications is May 7th by 5pm.
